My Top Bucket List Focus And My Motivation Behind It
1) Get my MFA-
The search is on! In the fall of 2012 I will be attending Graduate school somewhere. I’m not sure where but I will be there. Partly because I have to be – due to student loans I will no longer be able to defer and also because I feel like I’m ready, and I know what it is I need to learn. I was given wonderful advice to go out and work in professional theatre for a bit before getting my MFA so that I would have non-academic experience. My-oh-my have I had an experience! The past year in Maryland and Vermont have been wonderful, and I have learned so much about myself, my craft, and what I still need to learn! I’ve got a target list of schools and I am going to put together applications for at least 5 and have the applications ready before January 1 2010.
2) Furnish my entire living space with 90% DIY and refurbished items-
I am finally reaching the point in my life where I will be settling somewhere for an extended period of time. After this year in Lynchburg I will be going to grad school, which will be a 3 year commitment to an area. I haven’t lived anywhere for three consecutive years since living at home during High School! As I begin to look at where I am going to end up I am also looking at how I want my home to be. I have so many skills from working in theatre that there is no point in not putting them to use! I am beginning with my first furniture item that I will own: a Gossip Chair also called a Phone Table. I found it on Craigslist for $20 and will sand it and paint it to be the centerpiece around which I design my new living space. The idea of recycling and refurbishing old items is not only a fun way to be creative but it is generally cheaper and a good way to keep things out of the trash that are still perfectly usable!
The First Step I’ll Take To Make This Happen
1) Compile a list of Graduate Schools and their requirements in order to begin applications.
2) DIY refurbish Gossip Chair
My Action Plan Layout For My Top Bucket List Focus
1) Compile requirements. Work on Portfolio. Organize Application dates.
2) Pick up chair. Buy sandpaper/paint. Pick some free time and get to DIYing!

Swim with Sharks. That one scares me, but it almost makes me want to do it, with you that is, so I can get rid of that fear. Part of me envisions myself fainting in the water, drowning, and getting attacked by a shark, another part of me sees myself swimming in the water, looking at sharks, and not knowing exactly what to do with myself, except work on calming myself down.
I’ve gotten back into running and am going to run a 5K or a half marathon mid September if you want any running advice or cool resources.
P.S. I’m noticing a lot of people have “Visit all of the states” in common. A massive road trip would be awesome!
Melissa—YES on the grad school. The process is daunting, and hard because it is SO different from applying to undergrad. Good for you for planning (and following through) on getting some great life experience —I’m sure that will help you in the application process! ALSO—yay to the _K. I’ve been seriously running for about a year now, and I just LOVE it. I did my first 5k in DC last year on a bit of a whim, and it was great. GO YOUUUUUUUU! <3 Megan
Just realized I should have clarified with a last name so you wouldn’t say to yourself, “Megan. Who the hell is Megan?”
