Lifestyle Bucket List

My Top Bucket List Focus And My Motivation Behind It

In three months I’ll be graduating from college. This is a concept I’ve been struggling to wrap my head around since August. As I’m nearing the end of my college career it’s become startlingly clear that I need to make a few lifestyle changes if I intend to be successful. Allowing time for rest and treating myself with respect seems like the best place to start.

One aspect of respect I struggle with the most is acting with positive intent. Like most people, I am my worst critic. This year I’ve realized that I also need to be my biggest supporter. How can I expect to be successful if I don’t believe I can? A friend from high school once told me that “wherever you go you take you with you.” Speaking and acting with positive intent towards my own goals and dreams is a half way step to success.

The First Step I’ll Take To Make This Happen

I intend to start my journey by becoming aware and then cutting down on the negative things I say to myself.

My Action Plan Layout For My Top Bucket List Focus

Become aware of negative actions

For every negative thought I think or say, say something positive as well

Make time for myself

Surround myself with people who have my best interests in mind

Hold myself to my own standards of success and not others.

About Hannah Coleman

My name is Hannah Coleman and I hate talking about myself. That being said, here is a very short explanation of how I see myself. I’m contradictory, loud, opinionated, and infected with an awful case of Wanderlust. I dislike suede and people telling me what I can’t do. I’m currently studying Sociology and finishing my final semester as a Senior in college. I enjoy living my life with honesty and surrounded by good friends. There are a lot of things that I don’t know but what I do know is: I love exploring new places and meeting new people. I love the possibilities found in being introduced to a new song or artist. Above all, I cherish independence. For now, I’m taking everything a day at a time. As Bowie said, “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”

My Top Bucket List Focus And My Motivation Behind It

My focus at the moment is undeniably graduating from Randolph College on May 12. This will be one of the most exciting and memorable days of my life. I have not worked very hard to gain a piece of paper that says I finished. I worked hard for the experiences I have lived and for the recognition of my peers and family. What I learned most from my schooling is that I should never stop learning. When I wear that robe I will follow in the footsteps of many academics in order to demonstrate to the world my innovation and talent! My motivation is my love for myself and my sister and father. The beauty of this bucket list is not to finish but to enjoy the journey, and I’ve already started.

The First Step I’ll Take To Make This Happen

Well, finishing my senior year and passing all my classes… will get me graduation! I strongly believe that if people have the right motivation to achieve positive things then it’s simply a matter of time before they succeed, if – they are willing to never give up.

About Wuisa

Here is a bit about me: Name is Wuisa! I’m a nonconformist nomad, adventurer and seeker of pleasure. A twenty-one-year-old explorer. In search of those petit unforgettable blissful moments in life. Born in Bogotá, Colombia in the Andes Mountains where fall-like weather is eternal. I’m in my last semester of college at Randolph College in vintage Lynchburg, Virginia, taking 20.5 academic credits. An Environmental Studies major with a minor in French. I love to stay busy and go for long distance runs in the forest. If sunbathing naked were a sport, I would have countless gold medals. I find Ayn Rand’s views on objectivism brilliant, and I think Chuck Palahniuk is a creative genius. I am obsessed with Frida Kahlo‘s paintings and Pablo Neruda’s Poems. In my spare time, I write poetry, cook and watch foreign films. I promise you this, one day I’m going to stop whatever I’m doing, buy a ticket to Paris, then buy a ridiculously expensive camera and sleep in a tent near the Eiffel Tower. Never forget inspiration is endless. Pas.

My Top Bucket List Focus And My Motivation Behind It

Get back into dancer shape. I’ve (unfortunately) had to step back from dance to allow my body to heal from the years of wear and tear I’ve put on it from dancing all the time. I still dance now, I just don’t do it as heavily as I did previously.

The First Step I’ll Take To Make This Happen

About Katelyn

I’m a dancer, actress, and a dreamer. I live in Atlanta with my best friend and two cats. I’m in the best relationship ever with the love of my life, and still manage to live close enough to both of our families that we’re able to see them whenever possible. I write poetry on occasion, but since I fell head over heels (and got back on my meds) I’ve had no inspiration!

My Bucket List/Goals

1. Graduate with MS from Duke by 12 May
2. Spend the summer teaching kids at one of Duke’s summer learning institutes
3. Dedicate a year to service through Jesuit Volunteer Corps or similar
4. Develop reputation as person who emails/texts/calls back promptly
5. Post a missed connection on craigslist
6. BE a missed connection on craigslist
7. Never wear sweatpants in public again
8. Travel the world, starting with a visit to Alba in Spain
9. Go to Boston to visit Kelsey with Lukas
10. Finally “graduate” from therapy
11. Practicing treating myself like I would treat a friend
12. Practice treating men like normal human beings
13. Continue to not drink alcohol
14. Teach my dog, Merit, the commands “lie down” and “stay” (he already knows “sit”)
15. Do something really cool for my mom’s birthday on May 1

My Top Bucket List Focus And My Motivation Behind It

I’m picking goal #1 because it’s the most important to my life plan, and also the most challenging (emotionally speaking, it’s not really that challenging from an intellectual standpoint). I have to finish my degree even though I am really dragging my feet, because it’s important for me to make myself proud and be motivated out of love for myself and for God, who gave me these talents and abilities that I am currently using. By completing this degree, I will say to the world that I respect myself and that I can do anything. I will also be saying “thank you,” in a very real way, to those who have supported me– my friends, family, and mentors.

The First Step I’ll Take To Make This Happen

The first thing I will do is draft my MS thesis by 20 Feb. That is less than one month from now! I already have one chapter written and I expect there to be 3 chapters + a background section and a further research section.

My Action Plan Layout For My Top Bucket List Focus

After drafting my thesis by 20 Feb, I will submit my thesis by 20 March, and defend my thesis by 10 April. I will accomplish this by staying in constant contact with my advisor and colleagues about the status of our project, initiating meetings with the above, and not hesitating to speak up when I have an idea or think someone is wrong (even though they may have more experience, I know most about this project).

About Michaela

“Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” -Einstein

I’m still looking for the genius in me! Through prayer and discernment with the help of my family and friends, I know I can do it.

Connect with Michaela on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Help Make Michaela’s Bucket List Come True

It would be helpful to me if anyone could provide guidance in writing an MS thesis. I do not need help with the actual writing (I am the only one who can do that!) but I would love to see an example of a successful thesis in any subject. I’m an environmental scientist, so a thesis in any hard science discipline would probably be the most helpful. Thank you!

My Bucket List/Goals

To marry the love of my life (which will require travel to another state, or VA to legalize same-sex marriage); either way– I hope it happens in the next few years!

To earn my Masters in Early Childhood Special Education by spring of 2015. Within this, I hope to convince my advisor to allow my second student teaching placement be in a preschool Autism Classroom.

While working on my Masters, volunteer in a classroom working with a student with Autism (there’s a reason for this, I promise)!

If I enjoy all this work having to do with Autism, earn my Autism certificate my first or second year of teaching to work in an Autism classroom.

Pay off all my credit cards by next Christmas!

Save enough money to be able to put hardwood flooring down (I’m not sure when that goal is feasible by though).

Lose enough weight to go back to camp and just enjoy myself (and obviously work) for the 3 or 4 week session!

When I get an actual teaching job, pay as much of the mortgage as Shannon is paying so we can pay the house off in a lot less time! (Yay for thinking long-term responsibility)!

My Top Bucket List Focus And My Motivation Behind It

An amazing opportunity of a job with wonderful children that turned into a heartbreaking experience because of a supervisor who didn’t give me a chance helped me (with a lot of pep talks from my fiance) turn a spout of depression into a lot of motivation.

The First Step I’ll Take To Make This Happen & My Action Plan Layout For My Top Bucket List Focus

Do my best in school! Impress my professors: Go to (and prepare for) class, do my readings, complete all my assignments on time, and stay ahead! Also, impress the place I’m hoping to substitute for! ‘Start strong, stay strong!’

I’m a writer, and I believe in the power of words.

There are countless labels that we and society put upon others. When we take one of those labels for ourselves, and choose to claim and fully embody that word, it’s powerful.

When I was 22, in my senior year of college, I claimed the word writer. I always loved to write, but it wasn’t until that year that I embodied the word, felt comfortable using the word and felt confident in owning that word. At 22, without a doubt, I knew that I was a writer.

My relationship with the words writer and freelancer has evolved since I’ve graduated from college, and I realized that today was the first time that I was able to fully take on the label of freelancer, as well as adult.

Words are just words. Each word has a unique meaning and connotation to the person using that word and to the experiences that one associates with that word.

What does it mean to be an adult? It’s different for everyone. For me, it doesn’t mean being any less of a kid. What does it mean to be a kid? For me, it doesn’t mean being irresponsible or naive, but carefree and open. And the word adult? For me, it means taking responsibility and ownership of my thoughts and actions, and it means confidently moving forward in my life, while fully embodying the present moment.

I woke up today, half brain dead. I have slept very little in the past 4 days. While half brain dead, an idea popped into my head, and another, and another, and then thoughts of responsibilities and tasks shared space with my ideas, and then I started to put those ideas and thoughts into action. Then those actions turned into enjoyable experiences and positive emotions, and I was going on with me day, fluidly acting on what I wanted in life. One of those actions was going to Starbucks, and throughout the whole morning, while I was fluidly acting on my thoughts, I felt happy and energized.

I wasn’t filled with that energy that comes from being well rested, but I was filled with an energy that comes from being in balance and in harmony with life. I walked towards the doors of Starbucks, opened them for three men and smiled and greeted them warmly. I got in line, smiling. I smiled openly and warmly with the woman at the register and had a small, but great conversation about how our days were going. I ran into someone who I knew from my childhood, greeted him with a smile and we had a genuine and open conversation.

We gave updates about what we were up to and what our families were up to. He told me about his work and how he travels often for work, and he went in deeper about how his life has been for the past few years and how those experiences made him really appreciative of being able to travel. I told him about freelancing and that I was doing a lot of writing, editing and social media work. He asked me if I traveled a lot through work, and I said yes. I told him that two weeks ago I was in Las Vegas, not for a writing assignment, but how that trip happend because of a connection I made through my writing, and I told him that in two weeks I’ll be in Palm Springs for a writing assignment.

These past two and half years, this past year, these past few months and these past two weeks, I’ve realized more and more that my life isn’t ordinary. My life is what I make it, and my mind is filled with a wild imagination and bigger than life dreams.

Two months before the San Francisco GLAAD Media Awards happened this past June, I decided that I wanted to go, and I made it happen. I got a free ticket, covered the event for Curve Magazine, got to interview people who I never imagined meeting, got to make some really great connections and left with a great friend.

One of the people I interviewed was Rita Moreno from West Side Story.

One of the people who I connected with really enjoyed my energy and she invited me to volunteer at the OutMusic Awards in Las Vegas this December. Volunteering came with 4 free nights at Planet Hollywood and a lot of free tickets and VIP passes to night clubs, after parties, a private concert and the Awards show. She also invited me to invite other volunteers. I invited 10 people, from Massachusetts, New Jersey, DC, Virginia, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, who all got the same perks and got to experience an awesome time with a great organization and community.

Two of my friends and colleagues got to meet singer Frenchie Davis backstage
while volunteering at the OutMusic Awards.

In two weeks, I’ll be going to Palm Springs to explore what their general and lesbian toursim has to offer. My flight, lodging, food and excursions will all be paid for. This trip is happening because of the relationships I’ve built within Curve Magazine and because they appreciate the work that I do for them.

My life has always been filled with events and experiences like this. Since I’ve graduated from college, the experiences have become more “out of the ordinary,” and I have been realizing that my thoughts and my actions are the cause of it all. I am responsible for making my life the way it is.

Eve Ensler responded to one of my tweets via a direct message.

While at Starbucks this morning, when I told my friend that I was in Las Vegas two weeks ago and that I’d be in Palm Springs on a writing assignment in two weeks, it hit me that I am a freelancer writer, an entrepreneur and an adult, and it hit me that I am not only taking responsibility for creating the life that I want for myself, but currently, in the present moment, I am living my ideal life.

Yesterday, I was inspired to write a book. I was editing an ebook on how couples can communicate and work together on their relationship when one or both partners are just beginning to create a plan to manage their ADHD symptoms, and I took a lot of mini breaks throughout the editing process to brainstorm and browse the web for inspiration on gaining focus and clarity on my life goals. It was during my web browsing when the idea came to me: I want to write a book.

This book idea didn’t pop out of thin air on a whim. I had a similar idea in mind for a book back in 2010, and my recent experiences reminded me of it.

Lately, I’ve been focused on what I want from life, how I want to live my life and the thoughts and actions I need to take to realize my goals. I’ve also been focusing a lot of my time on writing and editing for my clients. This combination of experiences lead me to this moment: today, I decided that I’m going to write a book.

In the past 3 days I’ve edited two ebooks about ADHD. I reorganized and rewrote a lot of the content in both ebooks. In the past couple of months, I was working with my mom to edit her book, Self-Love Diet: The Only Diet That Works. She received a paperback proof of her book on Dec. 24th, and by mid January her book will be published.

Christmas Eve 2012, the day my mom received the proof copy for her book, Self-Love Diet: The Only Diet That Works.

In the past 6 months I have been doing a lot of writing and editing for other people. I have written articles, blog posts and rewritten large portions of ebooks on subjects that I have never considered myself an expert in. I researched and wrote a blog post about which types of punishment in the criminal justice system are best at lowering the rate of recidivism in the United States. Recidivism is when someone repeats a criminal act after they have experienced negative consequences from committing it the first time. I didn’t know that before I wrote the blog post. I have written numerous blog posts about the environment, business structures and nutrition. When ghost writing for bloggers about topics that I know little about, I have to research the content they want me to write about.

I am a perfectionist. If I take on a project, I’m going to excel in it. I don’t write bad content. I exceed my client’s goals. In the past handful of months, ghost writing for different blogs, I’ve realized that I can write on almost any topic, and well.

As a freelance writer, editor and social media consultant, I bring other people’s passions to life. I write the copy for their website. I help give their passions a web presence. I help give people a platform to spread their message and their passions with the world. I’m the person who takes people’s ideas and brings them to life.

I do the same thing with my non-paid passion projects. I put time into nurturing and growing Community Bucket List, an online community that encourages and supports people to take action on their passions and goals in the present moment. I’m creating a queer/ally publication, The Human Experience, with an overall mission to humanize people as individuals and to reveal people as we are, human beings whose experiences are vastly richer than the labels that we or society use to define people.

What impassions me the most is genuinely connecting with people, and helping people to see their value and their beauty and helping them to realize their passions. This is why all the work that I do revolves around helping others to realize their dreams and to feel a part of a larger community.

Although I live my life with my heart and follow my passions, there are still passions that I haven’t yet brought to life, and one of those passions is creative writing outside of articles, reviews, blog posts, interviews and marketing copy. I write and edit for others, and although I enjoy it, I want to write for myself.

I want to write screenplays and bring my web series’, short films and feature films to life. I want to write something for stage, a cross between a one woman show and Sarah Silverman’s comedy, Jesus is Magic.I want to write poetry and short fiction again. I want to write books: fiction, short story compilations, nonfiction and an epistolary novel, a novel written in the format of a series of letters.

Editing others’ books and writing others’ blog posts, I realized that I could easily write my own book. If I can quickly write at length about a topic that I had little to no previous knowledge of, then I can do the same on a topic that I want to write about. If I can put my time and energy into making others’ dreams come true, then I can do the same with my own dreams.

My book idea isn’t fully formed, but it’s getting there. Since I graduated from college in May of 2010, I’ve been on a constant journey of self-exploration. What makes me happy? What inspires me? What does it mean to love and accept myself unconditionally? What in life is most important to me? How do I want to interact with myself, and how do I want to interact with others? How do I want to live my life right now, tomorrow and 30 years from now? How would my life be different if I fully surrendered to love?

My first book will be nonfiction, and it will revolve around similar themes addressed above.

Today, I decided that I’m going to write a book, and I’m starting right now.
